Spring Recommissioning Apr. 11-14
The year's first trip out started Wednesday with a short cruise from Ward's Marina to the White Rock Pier with two friends aboard. All systems appear to be functional including a second depth sounder installed this spring. It is not as sensitive in deep water as the Garmin GPS combo, but then the Garmin tends to "freeze up" at inopportune times (such as entering shallow water). I over-nighted at Ward's Marina.
On Thursday, I was joined by the Red Current and the two boats crossed to Saturna Island and overnighted on the Rhodes' mooring buoy. The Red Current's new enclosure is great for a cool evening's chat. Friday included a cruise around Saturna and Pender Islands and lunch at Pt. Browing Marina (& Pub). Then we headed to Active Pass and over-nighted in Whaler Bay. My old friend Mike (the wharfinger) was gone and now lives at Ganges on his boat where he can be closer to the health care facility located there. I was sad to see him gone.
On Saturday, we cruised back to Crescent Beach and enjoyed a good crossing. Only light NW winds were about creating 1 foot chop with a low NW swell. No commercial traffic. It's good to be back on the water!
