Gibson's Landing - Feb 26 - Mar 3, 2010
I went on this trip to visit friends who had moved to Sechelt. I had not been in that area in some time and took the opportunity to do so. Luckily, I was invited to use Kim/Tim's vacant slip at Gibson's. They were between The Boat (an R25) and Hermitage (an R29). The trip was exciting for it's introduction to some wild waves south of Passage Island on the way out and then again in English Bay on the return. I had launched the Port Nut at Vanier Park in Vancouver ($18/day).
In between, I got to visit and go hiking around the Sechelt Peninsula. One of the most amazing sights is the Skookumchuck Narrows where the ebb and flow of the tide generates huge whirlpools of water. The photos don't do it justice. Some readers may not be familiar with the fact that there once was a trade language used along this coast. "Skookum" means big/mighty and "chuck" means water. Cool video of tug in trouble there.
