Spring Break - Visit to the Sunshine Coast (March 23-April 2, 2011)
Let's face it, there isn't a lot of sun on any part of the west coast of Canada, and particularly so during the month of March. Most people throughout the world would consider the weather to still be winter, but for us spring is finally showing it's promise. As a result, we venture out during "Spring Break". The kids are let out of school, and families go on trips to celebrate the end of the long winter. Mostly to Mexico, the Caribbean or Hawaii, but not us! No, we go boating. Though we can still see the snow a few hundred meters up the mountains, we know that we don't have to shovel it off our walkways anymore.
Rosa and I sailed on BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) to the Sechelt Peninsula. The idea was to go cruising on the Port Nut when the weather was placid and visit friends when it was not so great. We didn't exactly get it right, but it was a fun trip nevertheless. During our stay, we cruised in Sechelt Inlet, Pender Harbour, and made an excursion to Lasqueti Island and the Thormanby Islands. Some locations contained relics of old logging operations. Others were tiny but picturesque anchorages. The weather wasn't always pretty, but the scenery always is. Photos don't do it justice when the light is poor. Here are a few photos.
